I was on Pinterest today and I saw an “ADHD meme”. It was an analogy comparing living life to holding a handful of marbles. People with ADHD have the same amount of marbles as a neurotypical, but neurotypicals get a bag to help carry them and we don’t.
This analogy speaks to me because of how incredibly true it feels. It always seems like everyone else is walking through life confidently carrying their sack of marbles, while I’m stumbling and letting mine slip through my fingers one by one.
With 2021 being only hours away I’m reflecting on my marbles and how I somehow didn’t loose any. To top things off, 2020 gave me some greasy ass fingers—like McDonald’s fries greasy!
Even without a bag and without grip, I managed to get through another year unscathed. Well, for the most part anyway. For that, I will celebrate tonight.
I will celebrate the victory of a completion of another year being healthy, happy and alive. Grateful that I will keep my marbles and the chance to carry them successfully again. In the end, it doesn’t matter how I carried my marbles—you know I shoved a few in my bra—what matters is I didn’t give up. That’s something worth celebrating.
Cheers to the new year! May you keep all of your marbles.
